Have you every wonder what Globalization is really about. Globaliztion "is concerned with the application of business practices and processes to take a business or a product global."
It sounds harmless enought but have you ever wonder what would happen to farmers who reley on selling their prodect to people in thier community. They would have to compete with farmers from a wealthy country that could afford to sell their prodect at a lower price. This does not sound shocking after all the majority of the world is in a caplitic system that is all about making money no matter what happens in the process.
This is not a new topic it has been around since the 1970's. People protesting against anti-corperations against multinational corporations. "ITT in Chile, Nestle around the world, Citibank in South Africa, Union Carbide in Bhopal, India, Coca-Cola in Guatemala," and on and on.
Such recent protest like WTO, was mainly effective in the world eye because it was a big surprise. Many people had many questions as to why young people where so concern with this issue of Globalization. I guess the main reason is that young people feel nauseous of the way the world is run in regards of an old saying " the rich get richer and the poor get poorer." Some would say that Globalization is a war of big columerates and everyone else.
I want to be clear that their are other factors of Globalization that concern young people other then big business taking over the world.
Another concern is the issue of classified information that is important to public. This was the issue with the Quebec protest. It was a "secrect" meeting that dealt with the FTTA which went beyond NAFTA, expanding its features, such as the right of corporations to sue governments over laws that infringe upon their profits and their ability to increase the privatization of health care, education and other services. They whole idea of it being kept in secret took away certain rights that valued in a democratic country. For example in Canada it would violate the Charter of Rights and Freedom. Despite claims that "promised public consultation on the content of the FTAA, reports circulate that ministers are close to a final text of an agreement".
Is there another why to get the voice of youth across with out violant protest? I wish the answer was yes. However, it makes it hard if their is no political repesentives in office that share the political views of so many young people. this also brings another good point as to why youth do not vote.
When looking at the three main political parties in the Canadian system the Liberals, PC and NDP. One has to concider how they are funded. The Liberals and the PC are both funded by big businesses. Therefore, it would stand to reason that they are perseued to have a pro globilization stance.
The NDP are funded by private citzens and it seem that they would be the best choice of the vote of young anti-globilization protesters. However, they would not go ahead with this idea as one of their main plateforms becasue it is not a traditional Canadian concern.
Therefore, it is hard to see if their is any rational thought as to what anti-globalization protesters should do other then protest. One has to wonder is their ever going to be a voice for anti-globilization youth or do we have to wait until their is a war.
